Govt issued notice: ‘Wardens cannot issue tickets’
Petition challenging the authority of traffic wardens to fine motorists.
LAHORE:
Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought a reply from the Punjab government within two weeks on a petition challenging the authority of traffic wardens to fine motorists. Petitioner Muhammad Akram submitted that the traffic wardens were launched under the Traffic Warden Service Act during the tenure of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as chief minister. He said the act aimed at overcoming the traffic problems in the city, but did not authorise wardens to impose fines for traffic violations or use police shoulder badges or powers. He asked the courts to restrain the wardens from these actions.
