262,500 students between the ages of 4 and 15 years were getting education in informal basic education schools.
LAHORE:
Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman has said elimination of terrorism and extremism is necessary for the progress and prosperity of the country. “Unemployment and poverty can be fought through eradication of terrorism. Extremism can be rooted out through promotion of quality education,” he said. The minister said 262,500 students between the ages of 4 and 15 years were getting education in informal basic education schools. He said the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) was providing grants and scholarships to students in private educational institutions as these institutions were providing valuable services. The government, he said, was aware of its responsibility in developing the education sector by providing basic education. He said it had launched a primary enrolment campaign to achieve 100 per cent literacy in the province.
