3 killed, 9 injured in Quetta blast
SP Saryab Road says remote controlled bomb had target police personnel, SHO among those injured.
QUETTA:
At least three people were killed and nine were injured in a blast on Saryab Road in Quetta on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Saryab Sikandar Tareen said that the bomb had been planted inside a car and was used to target the police.
The bomb had been detonated using a remote control when a mobile of the New Saryab Police Station was passing by.
“Unknown persons detonated the device by remote control when a patrolling vehicle of PS New Saryab passed by.”
Amongst the three killed, two were identified as a donkey-cart owner, Mohammad Younus and rickshaw driver . The injured also included the Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The injured were shifted to the Sandeman Provincial Hospital immediately after the incident and were reported to be out of danger.
“Three dead bodies and nine injured were brought for treatment,” doctors said.
Security personnel cordoned off the area after the incident.
The police have been frequently coming under attack in Quetta for the past one month and seven police personnel have so far been killed while several have sustained injuries in targeted killings and bomb blasts. “Police are receiving threats by an armed group that is involved in target killings in Quetta,” a senior official said, adding that efforts are underway to maintain law and order.
A rocket attack in Quetta earlier had resulted in the death of at least two people and had injured over 20 others.
