Healed wounds: Sealed mosques reopen in G-B

The central Sunni and Shia mosques, which had been sealed in Gilgit after bitter sectarian clashes around two months back, were reopened before Friday prayers.
The board members of the two mosques performed the reopening ceremony in public. As a goodwill gesture, the mosques of the two sects were opened by representatives of the other sect. The decision to reopen the places of worship had been passed in the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Assembly on the same day. After the session was over, lawmakers reached the area together.
Under the new guidelines issued by the legislature, the mosques would not be used for inciting sectarian violence in the region.
