Inam, Sultan vie for solitary London slot

Federation shortlists two shooters for the Olympics, POA to select final entry.

KARACHI:
The National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) has failed to pick the country’s sole representation in the Olympics shooting event despite a series of trail held this month, sending the names of Khurram Inam and Ahmed Sultan to the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) to choose from.

Pakistan were awarded a single wild-card entry for the skeet event after which the NRAP asked four shooters to appear in trials held over five rounds.

Sultan edged out two-time Olympian Inam by a single point, scoring 554 as Amin Karamat and Abdul Sattar failed to impress.

“We were asked to send two names to the POA by May 25 which we’ve done,” NRAP Secretary Javed Lodhi told The Express Tribune.

“Now we have enough time to decide who will go to London. We won’t be able to send the selected one abroad for training so there’s enough time. We will name the representative after a thorough assessment as we want to select the most deserving shooter.”
