USAID to provide 100 water pumps to capital
These will replace old pumps, ease water shortage in the city.
ISLAMABAD:
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has decided to provide 100 water tube-well pumps to help the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the city administration cope with water shortage in the capital.
“USAID will provide 100 new water pumps to replace the old ones. CDA has been asked to take concrete measures for uninterrupted supply of potable water to the residents and replace old tube-well pumps,” said Prime Minister’s Chief Coordinator on Islamabad’s Affairs Faisal Sakhi Butt while talking to the media.
CDA has also initiated work on establishing eight new water filtration plants in different areas of the city. Of these, two plants will start functioning soon.
Butt asked CDA to formulate a comprehensive plan for tackling water problems as residents were facing serious issues in this connection, especially in G and I sectors.
He said CDA had been asked to prepare a workable plan for future development in the city and upgrading slums in different areas. It will also initiate a pilot project in line with the experiences of municipalities of the world to resolve the issues faced by the slums.
Butt pointed out that all modern metropolitan cities around the world made joint ventures with the private sector for carrying out development projects as the government, constrained by the economic slowdown, could not fund and complete projects alone.
He expressed the hope that approval of proposals by the federal cabinet about public-private partnership would prove to be a milestone in speedy and quality future development of the city.
