Secretary summoned: ‘216 jobs given without merit’

Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a reply from the education secretary on a writ petition challenging appointments made in the Education Department. Petitioner Mehram Ali submitted that the department had made 216 grade four appointments on political grounds and ignoring merit. He asked the court to declare the appointments null and void and direct the department to recruit candidates on merit. The judge directed the secretary to submit a reply within a fortnight.
