Wheat procurement: ‘Growers need to trust government’

Department had so far procured 277,000 bags of wheat in the Chiniot district against a target of 510,000 bags.

“The Punjab government has taken solid steps for strict monitoring and ensuring transparency in the current wheat procurement drive across the province,” Manshaullah Butt, special advisor to the chief minister for Food Department, said on Thursday. 


He was addressing the media during an inspection of wheat procurement centres in Chak 11-JB and in Chenab Nagar.

“The satisfaction and confidence of wheat growers in the Punjab government is an important part of our policy,” the advisor said.


Butt said strict action would be taken against those found involved in corruption or negligence. He, however, promised cash prizes for the efficient staff.

Butt was told that the department had so far procured 277,000 bags of wheat in the Chiniot district against a target of 510,000 bags.

He was also told that the department had distributed 345,000 bags among wheat growers so far.

Chiniot Distinct Coordination Officer Dr Irshad Ahmed, Deputy Director (Food) Sardar Anjum, District Food Controllers Ameer Ali Monga and Muhammad Taufiq accompanied him during the visits.
