ISLAMABAD:
Speaker of National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza has directed Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to file a response regarding his conviction in the contempt of court case, DawnNews reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, Dr Mirza is due to announce her decision regarding Gilani’s disqualification this week.
Sources told DawnNews that Gilani will respond to the speaker with an official written reply by Wednesday.
Under the Constitution, the speaker is required to send a reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) within 30 days if she thinks the prime minister stands disqualified in light of the Supreme Court verdict in the contempt case.
Dr Mirza, talking to The Express Tribune, had earlier said it was not clear when the period of 30 days would end.
