Bus security: Daewoo resumes intra-city service in Lahore
Service was suspended a few days ago after IJT students, protesting a murder of a colleague, set fire to several buses

Daewoo has resumed its urban bus service after negotiations with the Lahore Transport Company on Monday.
The service was suspended a few days ago after Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) students, protesting at the murder of a colleague, set fire to several buses.
Daewoo President CI Kim said that such incidents jeopardised foreign investment in Pakistan. He said he hoped that the police and the LTC would arrest and punish those who burnt the buses. LTC Chief Executive Officer Khawaja Haider Latif assured Daewoo that its buses would be provided adequate security. He said that LTC enforcement inspectors would ride in each bus for the security of the vehicle and the safety of the passengers. Daewoo General Mirza Khurram Mirza said that the company was losing Rs4 million a month in its city bus service. The services were suspended after two buses were burnt during a protest.
