Law and order: Theft suspect survives mob violence

Criminals operating from the graveyard are now committing crimes in broad day light.

FAISALABAD:

A man accused of snatching a motorcycle and stabbing the rider was beaten up by locals on Sunday before police arrested him.

Police told that Abdur Rauf was visiting his father’s grave in Siddiqia graveyard on Sunday when three men hiding in the graveyard stabbed him, snatched his motorcycle and mobile phone and fled. However, the motorcycle and neighbours caught one of the men. His two accomplices managed to escape. People beat the captive who fainted by the time police arrived and arrested him. He was then taken to Allied Hospital in a critical state. The crowd still demanded that the police hand the man over so they could ‘teach him a lesson.’ Abdul Qadeer, a resident of the area, told The Express Tribune that Siddiqia Graveyard had become a den of criminals. “We have asked police several times to act against the criminals but to no avail.”Jameel Ahmad, another resident, said “The criminals operating from the graveyard are now committing crimes in broad day light.”
