Law and order: Two ‘criminals killed in shootout’

A relative of one of the deceased says he was picked up from his home in Shorkot two days ago.

FAISALABAD:

Two men were killed in what the crime investigation agency (CIA) police say was a shootout in Thikriwala area late Friday night.

The police said they were hardened criminals wanted in several murder and robbery cases. They said the CIA team had fired in self defence as the deceased first opened fire to avoid a search at a picket.

However, a relative of one of the deceased, Muhammad Siddique, rejected the explanation.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Aslam said Siddique was taken away by a CIA team from his house in Shorkot two days ago. He said the CIA team had not presented any court warrants to arrest the man. Aslam said he would move court against the extra-judicial killing of the two men.

Senior superintendent of Police (Operations) Chaudhry Sadiq Dogar turned down the allegation that Siddique had been detained two days ago.

He said Siddique and his accomplice Ejaz had shot at the CIA Lyallpur Town officials who had asked them to stop at a picket near Saddar bypass on Friday night. He said both suspects had suffered injuries when the CIA officials returned fire.

He said a police team led by SP Rai Zameerul Hasan and including officials of both Thikriwala and Sandal Bar stations was taking the men to a hospital when they died on the way.

The SSP said Siddique and Ejaz were wanted in at least 14 cases involving murder and robbery. He said Siddique carried a Rs1.2 million bounty and Ejaz Rs200,000.

A case has been registered against the deceased with the Thikriwala police by of Asim Rasheed, the in charge of the CIA Lyallpur Town police station.

It mentions Sections 353, 186 and 324/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The bodies were sent to Bhowana for burial on Saturday.
