LONDON:
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani were represented at the memorial service of Khalil Rashjed Dale, an accredited volunteer of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) who was abducted before being assassinated in April this year.

Pakistan High Commissioner to UK, Wajid Shamsul Hasan laid wreaths of flowers on behalf of the President and the Prime Minister at Dale’s memorial service held in London, on Friday.

Deputy High Commissioner Syed Zulfiqar Gardezi also attended the service.

The event was organised by the British Red Cross and was attended by senior representatives of ICRC, British Red Cross along with family and friends of Dale. Chief Executive of the British Red Cross, Sir Nicholas Young was also present on the occasion.

Dale had been actively involved in humanitarian work in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

It may be noted that the murder of Dale was strongly condemned by the government, civil society and media of Pakistan.

On Friday, a delegation of the ICRC met with senior Pakistan officials who assured the aid workers of security. ICRC operations in Pakistan currently remain suspended.
