Overcoming Power Shortages: PM backtracks on printing currency
Prime Minister Gilani has retracted his statement about the government printing banknotes to ease power shortages.
LAHORE:
The premier appears to have retracted his earlier comments suggesting that the government should print banknotes and pour capital into the electricity sector in order to overcome the power shortages.
Prime Minister Gilani said that all available resources, except for printing currency, would be used to end unannounced power cuts. Speaking to reporters, he questioned why provincial governments did not take steps for generating power in their provinces, rather than criticising the federal government.
“There is no restriction to generate independent power in the provinces,” he said.
