President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday stayed the execution of Behram Khan, a prisoner on death row, who was supposed to be hanged on May 23. The stay order postpones the death sentence till June 30. Khan was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court after he was found guilty of murdering Mohammad Ashraf, a lawyer, in the premises of the Sindh High Court in April 2003. The president had earlier rejected Khan’s mercy petition, after which the trial court issued a black warrant for his hanging.
