Former MQM UC counselor killed in Karachi

Unknown men shot Anwaar Alam dead near his house in PECHS area.

KARACHI:
A former Union Council counselor, and a member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Anwaar Alam was killed in the PECHS area of Karachi on Tuesday evening.

Alam was shot by two unknown men near his house in the Block two of PECHS. He received two bullet wounds and was rushed to Jinnah hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Following the incident, shops and showrooms in and around Tariq Road, Tipu Sultan Road, Khalid bin Waleed Road and Bahadurabad were shut down.


Police said that they were investigating the matter and the motive for the murder remains unclear at this point.

Alam was an active member of MQM’s Unit 63. He had served as a former counselor of UC 7, Jamshed Town.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain, in a statement released after the incident, expressed grief over Alam’s murder and offered condolences to deceased’s family.

Hussain said that Alam had rendered numerous services to achieve the party’s mission and also offered social services for the cause.
