‘Topi drama’: MPAs wants Chaudhry Nisar to apologise

Nisar recently said that the celebration of Sindhi culture day on March 13 was a “topi drama”.

KARACHI:

The privilege committee of the Sindh Assembly has summoned the opposition leader of the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar, on May 21 for the remarks he made against Sindhi culture and ruling party MPAs have threatened to besiege him during the NA proceeding if he fails to apologise to the people of Sindh.

Nisar has recently said during a press conference that the celebration of Sindhi culture day on March 13 was a “topi drama”.

On Monday, a committee met with Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Mujadid Isran in chair. Imran Zafar Leghari has tabled a privilege motion against Nisar’s remarks as well.

Leghari has requested Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro to refer the matter to a privilege committee. But as it is only a month old and does not have a chairman the proceedings have yet to take place.

Muqeem Alam and Syed Khalid Ahmed of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement attended the meeting during which an employee of the Sindh Assembly shouted “Chaudhry Nisar hazir ho” many times.

Later, the chairman expressed his concern over Nisar’s absence. “We are giving him another chance. The privilege committee of the assembly has the court’s power and can issue notices before making any decision,” he said.

Talking to the media, Leghari said that Nisar had not only breached the privilege of all MPAs celebrating the culture day, but his derogatory remarks have hurt the sentiments of the people living in Sindh. “MPAs and MNAs from Sindh will besiege Chaudhry Nisar during parliament’s proceeding if he fails to appear at the upcoming meeting and does not tender an apology for his remarks,” he added. “These kind of remarks against Sindhi culture are meant to create anarchy. ”
