HYDERABAD:

While leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz appeared confident at a rally in Thatta about their party’s electoral prospects in Sindh, nationalist parties continued to remind them of their own influence in the province.

The Sindh Taraqi Pasand party gave its eight-point agenda to PML-N leader Marvi Memon, which would form the basis for any future agreements between the two parties, on Sunday.

Sindh would retain its autonomy and control over its resources, Sindhi would be given the status of a national language and a ban would be imposed on the construction of further dams on the Indus River, were some of STPP’s demands. The party also wanted the PML-N to declare that it will not form an alliance with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

“Ongoing talks between the PML-N and the nationalists are a precursor of an election alliance between us,” said Memon.“The Pakistan Peoples Party has [disappointed] its people. The government has given a raw deal to people like us who protest for Sindh,” STPP chairman Dr Qadir Magsi.
