Cricket: Kenya-Namibia clash postponed

ICC has raised the issue of security after recent warnings by foreign embassies of pending attacks on Nairobi

NAIROBI:
Kenya’s upcoming Intercontinental Cup tie and one-day series against Namibia in Nairobi next month has been postponed due to fears over security, according to the officials. “The International Cricket Council (ICC) has raised the issue of security after recent warnings by foreign embassies of pending attacks on Nairobi,” said Cricket Kenya (CK) Chief Executive Tom Sears. The Kenyan capital has been hit by several grenade attacks since the country sent troops into southern Somalia last October to battle the Al Qaeda-affiliated insurgents it blames for cross-border attacks. Sears said the ICC has indicated the series would now be played in the coastal town of Mombasa in September. The two teams will also play two unofficial Twenty20 matches.
