30% increase in private school fees

Several private schools in the city have increased their fees by 10 to 30 per cent.

KARACHI:
Several private schools in the city have increased their fees by 10 to 30 per cent and the Directorate of Private Institutions Sindh intends to take action against them.

The schools went ahead with the fee increase without the approval of the registration authority — a violation of the rules.

The directorate will send notices to these schools today (Tuesday) telling them to present an explanation for their move.

They will then be told to submit their fee structure, which would be compared with the inspection files and those found violating the rules will face action.

The directorate will also initiate proceedings against those private schools, which produced no passing students in the matriculation general group exams.

They will be told to justify their poor performance, and in case of an unsatisfactory reply, their registration would either be suspended or terminated.

Private Institutions Sindh Deputy Director Raifa Mallah told Daily Express that the directorate took notice of the fee hike after it received many complaints from parents.

The directorate will then submit a report to the education department and seek its approval before making a final move against the schools, the deputy director added.
