Khyber Agency: 400 families flee Bara ahead of military operation
UNHCR provincial spokesperson says around 0.23 million people have been shifted to the Jalozai camp.
BARA:
Around 400 families fled the Shalobar area of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency on Thursday – the deadline given by the political administration to vacate the area before launching a military operation.
“We have shifted people to safer places and now security forces can launch an operation against extremists,” said Bara tehsil Assistant Political Agent Bakhtia Mohmand. He added that security forces were targeting militants’ hideouts in other areas of the agency.
UNHCR provincial spokesperson Taimur Khan told The Express Tribune that 0.23 million people have been shifted to the Jalozai camp. Narrating their ordeals, the displaced people told The Express Tribune that they had faced immense difficulties in shifting to the camp. “Truckers were charging people extra fares and we had to pay to save our lives,” they said.
