School roof collapse: CM announces financial assistance for affected families

CM announced Rs300,000 for the families of each of the deceased; Rs100,000 for those seriously injured.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced financial assistance for the families of children who died or were injured in a school roof collapse on Monday. At least seven children died and 15 were injured. 


The chief minister was talking to the media after inspecting the building. He announced Rs300,000 for the families of each of the deceased students; Rs100,000 for those seriously injured; and Rs50,000 for those with minor injuries.

He said those responsible for the tragedy will be taken to task. Stern action will be taken against officers if they failed to arrest those responsible, he said. He said that a survey of the buildings of all private educational institutions will be conducted in the Punjab to avoid recurrence of such incidents.

He also said that funds for the construction of Shakargarh-Narowal Road had been released. He directed the officials concerned to speed up the project and said that he will not tolerate negligence in this regard.

MPA Dr Tahir Ali Javed, Gujranwala Commissioner Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, DCO Ahmad Ali Kamboh, DPO Sikandar Hayat and Shakargarh AC Mian Rafique were also present.
