Customs duty: Request for increase in jute import tax

Yarn and twines of jute are imported at 10% tax while sisal yarn and twines are imported at 25%.

Pakistan Jute Mills Association (PJMA) has requested National Tariff Commission (NTC) to enhance customs duty from 10% to 25% on import of jute yarn and twines to protect local industry against cheap imports.



NTC’s press release issued on Tuesday stated that PJMA’s request said yarns, twines are made from jute, sisal plants and are of same nature and used for similar purpose.

Yarn and twines of jute are imported at 10% tax while sisal yarn and twines are imported at 25%. NTC invited comments, other information, relevant in study from all interested parties having business of jute yarns and jute twines, which may be sent within 15 days of publication of public notice to Secretary, NTC Islamabad.
