Squash: Punjab to send two players to Peshawar

Issues resolved at squash event after earlier withdrawals.

KARACHI:

The Punjab Squash Association (PSA) has decided to send just two players for the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) event in Peshawar after a three-hour long meeting between the PSA and Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) in Islamabad.

Earlier, the Punjab and Sindh federations pulled out of the events, citing ‘biased’ draws and the local officials fielding over-age players as the reason. The PSF, though, was far from impressed by the federations’ decision and despite PSF Secretary Abdul Wahab Marwat’s claims that things were sorted out, Punjab’s decision confirmed that all was not well.

“The issues have been sorted out and players will take part,” Marwat told The Express Tribune. “The senior officials should have acted maturely instead of being emotional. But they have admitted their mistakes.”

Meanwhile, a PSA official said Sindh officials maintained their stance of boycotting the event but were forced to change their minds after PSF’s Senior VP Razi Nawab involvement in the issue. The main round of the event begins today.
