Telcos give Rs238.5m for flood relief

Three leading telecom operators have contributed Rs238.5 million for the flood affected people.

ISLAMABAD:
Three leading telecom operators have contributed Rs238.5 million for the flood affected people while other operators are gearing up efforts to assist the masses in this need of hour.

Telenor made a major contribution as its representative handed over a cheque of Rs100 million to Secretary General Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

The amount will be utilised to facilitate immediate relief efforts and longer term rehabilitation initiatives by PRCS.


Another telecom operator, Mobilink, committed Rs85 million for providing relief. Mobilink will be coordinating with relief organisations including World Food Programme (WFP) and World Health Organisation(WHO) to reach out to the flood victims.

The funds will be used to provide immediate relief assistance including clean drinking water and dry food rations.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and its sister organisation Ufone, made a joint contribution of Rs53.5 million to the Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund.
