Despite Pakistani condemnation, US to continue drone strikes: Panetta
In an interview, defence secretary says drone strikes protect America.
US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said on Saturday that the US will continue to launch drone strikes against militants in Pakistan even if the Pakistani government opposes it.
Giving an interview to PBS news, Panetta said that the drone strikes protect America. “The United States is going to defend itself under any circumstances.”
Referring to the 9/11 attack, Panetta said, “we are going to do everything we can, use whatever operations we have to, in order to make sure that we protect this country and make sure that that kind of attack never happens again.”
The Foreign Office of Pakistan had strongly condemned the drone attack in North Waziristan which killed 10 people on Saturday morning, in addition to lodging a complaint over a drone strike last Sunday when a drone targeting militants blew up a girls school in North Waziristan.
