Formula one: Ferrari unveil first major upgrade

Fernando Alonso went off the track at Turn 12 after about 90 minutes’ running, damaging the front wing.

Ferrari have unveiled the first major upgrade to their car, hoping that it will improve their form after a disappointing start to the season, according to the BBC. Fernando Alonso, who is testing a revised rear bodywork and exhaust exit design on the final day of the Mugello test, went off the track at Turn 12 after about 90 minutes’ running, damaging the front wing. However, the Spaniard ended the morning third fastest, behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Lotus’ Romain Grosjean. Gary Anderson, a former technical director of the Jordan, Stewart and Jaguar teams, said the new design was ‘definitely an improvement. “It looks like a reasonable step forward - you could be looking at 0.2 seconds a lap, possibly more.”
