Siachen tragedy: Live video streaming gets online from Gyari
The COAS was briefed about the progress of ongoing work including the efforts to create a water course to safely drain the lake formed by blocking of Gyari river by the avalanche.
The satellite data link also became operational today, which will allow real time video monitoring of relief work from the General Head Quarters in Rawalpindi.
Kayani remained with the troops for some time and lauded their motivation in face of tough conditions and the extreme weather. He appreciated their resolve to upkeep Army’s proud tradition of ‘leaving no man behind’, until humanly possible, regardless of cost.
The COAS was also accompanied by Commander Rawalpindi Corps and a media team, invited to witness firsthand, the ongoing activities at disaster site.

The only reason the army has been able to rule Pakistan for this long is because it always cares for its own.

Please read the episode of kargil again. It was Nawaz Sharif who went abroad and signed agreement to retrieve troops from Kargil. Pakistan army was never in favor of pulling back. In fact, Pak army was in a position where all supply line of india to siachen was blocked. If it had remained blocked for another month or so, india would have been forced to retreat.
The Government should get some international expert to investigate the area for any furture potential natural disaster and ask that expert to identify some relatively safe area for setting up camp.
Let us learn from this natural disaster and also build up our local capacity of search and rescue.
The avalanche is a major tragedy for the brave Northern Light Infantry. My heart goes out to those who passed away doing their duty to keep us safe. So sad to see the politics of Pakistan; they have no thought nor prayer for our brave soldiers. For Generals I don't give a damn but the soldiers came from such humble homes and were the only source of their families well being and pride.

What about those boys you left behind on Kargil heights, General? You would not even accept their dead bodies. I had thought generals are straight shooters. Not Pakistani generals, apparently. They are politicians, businessmen, business executives even chief executives. The only thing they don't know is fighting wars, even less winning any!
