He gave this statement on the first anniversary of Bin Laden's killing during an interview to the British Broadcasting Channel (BBC) Urdu news service.
According to BBC correspondent Aijaz Meher, the defence minister said that Pakistan had an agreement with the US that whenever Pakistan retrieved any material in Arabic and English, it will be given to US and if the US found any material in Urdu, it would give it to Pakistan.
"I do not know how big a leader Osama bin Laden was," said the defence minister. Time will tell how positive his contributions to the Muslim countries proved to be."
He said that materials recovered from Osama bin Laden’s residence were with the army and investigations were underway.

@Disappointed Pak Fan:
"Then why to call US? You could have done it by yourself."
Very good question!
@Pakistan politics: Then why to call US? You could have done it by yourself.
Ahhh...that's the kind of a joke which has made my weekend. Thank You, Mr. Defence Minister.
Now that it has been proven beyond doubt that Pakistan masterminded the raid on Osama, can somebody release Dr.Shakeel Afridi and pin a medal on him?
Not getting sidetracked by the "the sky is brown and we refuse to look up to see that it's blue no matter how many times you say it" crowd.
Pakistan spent the better part of the last year and this year distancing themselves from it and playing the victim. Someone tape that guy's mouth shut. He really does make the government and in turn the country, look beyond stupid.
It seems to me he is just referring to info provided to US. It wasn't identified by Pakistan as being related to Bin laden per se. Maybe they found out info that identified his location was contained in that info? Govt. should have Arabic translators to know what is in info they are sharing that they locate. This where the Madressah graduates could be, unless all they know has only been memorized with no comprehension?
The truth is out there. It is for each individual what it wants to tech its children.
As if we'll believe you...
Pak's govt and army PR machine continue to mock themselves and degrade the country's image even further. Mukhtar only admitted to one truth and that is OBL being dead. Everything else is laughable (or deplorable), especially the claim of 'not knowing' OBL's impact as being boss of terrorist organization, Al Qaeda, which plunged the region into a state of war as he refused to give himself up and went into hiding, and expecting OBL's 'positive' contribution on Muslims magically, such as bombing US buildings and embassies, which included Muslim civilians, and doing the same over Pak, Iraq (just ask the Sunni Awakening councils on Al Qaeda's 'positive' contribution) and Afghanistan, killing more Muslims than the Neo-cons could ever conceive of. In other words, just retarded. Same cowardly Pakistani hypocrite thinking that it's taboo to criticize an Arab 'Sheikh' in name as a loyal slave, due to religious superstition, afraid he'll become un-Muslim or un-Pakistani if he condemns him. Those who share the same superficial religious/nationalist label worship and twisted apologist excuses, be it for extremist terrorists or the establishment, are pathetic.
"Time will tell how positive his contributions to the Muslim countries proved to be.”
Are you joking? You mean to say that he had a positive contribution towards Muslim countries? What planet do you live on minister sahib? All he did was drag us through the mud and kill thousands of innocents to make his point of view heard.
In a country with rule of law and real democracy ministers like him will either be in jail or in mental hospital.
@Pakistan politics: Hardly anyone in America cares what a Pakistani thinks of what they do anymore. You're the most depraved criminals on the planet. Most take pleasure in being disliked by those types.
@Pakistan politics: 'Nothing was proved against Osama, US did not showed any proofs of 9/11 attack, not they should the poofs of his death, maybe he was just an illusion'.
This is the final illusion: UN has blamed AL-Qaeda was responsible to the 9/11 attacks. Yes but Pakistan is not part of UN.
@Pakistan politics: 'can you show some proofs of his death in abottabad, we all know nothing except what the controlled media feeds us'. Are you still in the proof mode or do I quote your earlier comments and my asking proofs.
@Pakistan politics: After all the writing idoitic things that OBL was not in Pakistan and was not dead. All of a sudden there is a 360 degrees change. Yes truth will always prevail and a paid agents will never win.
listen to what american people think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXj7YfLRx5I&feature=share
@Cautious: keep living in self denial
@Pakistan politics. The only thing consistent in your postings is the anti American blather. You ignore mountains of evidence to sustain illogical an bigoted arguments which range from 911 being fiction, OBL being a good guy falsely accused, Al Qaeda being an illusion, OBL being alive etc. etc. Well 911 wasn't fiction and murdering thousands of innocents isn't something to brag about or something that anyone should admire. The World celebrated OBL death for good reason - if you choose to live in a fantasy world - so be it.
he is alive and living in yameen. topi dram......
I guess he might as well say that GOP lit up candles from the Afghan border to the Osama's residence to assist the American choppers at night.
@pakistan politics , You are delusional ! .You missed the wives and children were with you in pakistan under Pakistani ISI supervision for a whole year and you still want to hide behind conspiracies!.
First of all congratulations for telling the world the truth that OBL was found in Abbottabad and was killed. It took only a year to come clean with the people of the world that is mainly due to the fact that the govt cannot refute the claims of US President. Yes Pak army played a big role in OBL killing by staying out of American's way. In his book Gen Mush claimed that they have gotting so much head money from the US for the identification of high value targets. How much money did they get this time for helping the US? None, that means there was no help! In fact the US kept the operation secret for its success.
@Singh: can you show some proofs of his death in abottabad, we all know nothing except what the controlled media feeds us
@Cautious: America stop wars stop assassinating people listen to what true patriot americans says about US policies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6so0wYjhXQ
@Cautious: who are u to say that, who gave America right to act as a world police, Al Qaeda is just an illusion which is serving for US interests in the whole world. U people should stop fighting wars in the name of peace and in fact America disturbed the peace of the world.
Was the world more safe and peaceful before US started fake wars against self created fake terrorism or now??
@Pakistan politics: You are right. US has only support of Dr. who is in Jail now on treason charges. Rest is story.
We don't expect truth from the Minister but he should not have given ridiculous statements!
Nothing was proved against Osama, US did not showed any proofs of 9/11 attack, not they should the poofs of his death, maybe he was just an illusion
If GOP helped in apprehending and killing OBL, how come the Doctor that helped the US govt is in jail and may be charged for treason.
Without any support or help from within Pakistan US would never had attacked abottabad compound
Yet another turn taken by GOP.It seems that Establishment first and the Govt wish to take some credit of OBL killing.First the ISI unknown Officer given out an interview to Washington post that ISI has given key code to USA which help great for the eventual killing of OBL and now the Defence minister with the same rhetoric. It seems that as Obama is trying to cash the killing of OBL in the next election. Similarly ,the our own minister.
They think the fools living in this planet, whatever version of story you give ,public will believe it.
This statement says it all -- no wonder the American's don't trust you. Attempts at trying to convince others that you helped capture OBL are pathetic. How's that Abbottabad Commission coming - that report might make a suitable headstone for your relationship with America.
“I do not know how big a leader Osama bin Laden was,” said the defence minister. Time will tell how positive his contributions to the Muslim countries proved to be.”
Is this a circus ?
Have a break, Have a Kit Kat
This is becoming more and more embarrassing for the ordinary Pakistani citizens. When will the lying stop?? It is time to come clean and let the world know that we have changed.
This is another spin put up by Pakistan to whatever end it is dreaming of. Why all these sovereignty issues brought up, hiked up and flamed up if Pak govt and army and US are on the same page for OBL killing. Does Pakistan think that they will get some prize for OBL killing?
One minute you say the Government and the Army didn't know where OBL was (Musharaf has repeatedly said it all through his tenure) and the next you say Army and the Government palyed huge role.
If you had whatever majic chip, why didn't Pakistan arrest OBL, instead of the US taking him out?
These types statments are the one's makes Pakistan an mockery in the eyes of the rest of the world.
1) If Army and government played part, who on earth permitted US special ops to cross borders ? 2) If Army and government didn't know the where abouts of OBL, what was OBL doing closer to city capital ?
This guy who unluckily happen to be in charge of defence of 180 million people is wrong footed in both ways.
Defence minister has not got a clue of what is he talking about? It is laughable when he says that government of Pakistan played a huge part. What is huge part? One can believe that Army would have some part played but GOP...Investigations are underway and these will never be completed...as usual...Please spare us...
Give us a break minister. You are trying to manfacture stories to please the generals.
