Cricket: PQA inch closer to title, promotion
Grade II final likely to end in draw with KESC on the back-foot.
KARACHI:
Port Qasim Authority (PQA) moved to within touching distance of a place in Pakistan’s first-class competition after ending day three of their four-day Patron’s Trophy Grade II final against KESC in a commanding position.
Play started with PQA resuming their second-innings on 56 for two and finished with them reaching 376 for nine. Mohammad Sami scored a 135-ball 79 that followed up his first-innings’ 43* and a four-wicket haul. Meer Hamza grabbed four wickets but the rest of the KESC bowlers toiled on a flat pitch.
Sami, who called his all-round show ‘no fluke’, was delighted after his crucial contribution increased his team’s chances of playing the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy next season.
“We have a really talented side which deserves to be in the top-tier,” Sami told The Express Tribune. “It feels great to be able to stand up and perform with the bat and ball. I have said that I am ready to play as an all-rounder for Pakistan because my confidence is high and now I can take the responsibility of making a difference.”
