Lyari operation: How, when, what?
Dateline shows Lyari incidents for the whole month of April.
KARACHI:
April 1: Saqib, alias Sakhi, of Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) was killed in an alleged encounter between police’s Anti-Extremist Cell (AEC) and PAC gangsters.
April 2: Eight people, including a woman and a Pakistan Peoples Party leader Hassan Soomro, were gunned down and around 30 people, including six policemen, were injured in cross fire between police and Lyari residents.
April 10: A policeman posted at Kalri police station was kidnapped and killed.
April 11: The chairman of Friends of Lyari, Habib Jan Baloch, and nine others, including Peoples Amn Committee leaders and activists - Uzair Baloch and Zafar Baloch, were booked for the murder of the Kalri policeman in Lyari.
April 13: Lyari becomes a battlefield once again. Six more people and around half a dozen more were injured.
April 14: Two more people are killed while seven others were wounded.
April 22: About 160 policemen posted in Lyari are replaced by the South Zone police.
April 26: One more policeman, and the former deputy nazim of Lyari, Malik Mohammad Khan, shot dead as he led a protest against the contempt conviction of the prime minister.
April 27: Eight men, including an alleged gangster, Naeem Lahoti, killed and 24 others injured.
April 28: Seven people, including two policemen and an alleged gangster Mullah Sohail, died and over 18 were injured.
