‘Knowledge Economy’: Government signs agreements with IT companies
Microsoft, Cisco, Hawaway, Oracle, Teradata and Transworld agree to help students.

After setting up computer labs in schools and distributing laptops, the government is now providing the youth access to multinational companies, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.
Speaking at a function at the Arfa Software Technology Park, he said that agreements with these companies will help the youth in learning software programming.
“The government is launching an e-employment scheme with Microsoft for the students who received laptops,” he said. He announced that free Wi-Fi facilities will be provided to students at several educational institutions.
MoUs were signed with various companies to enhance cooperation in the IT sector. Microsoft has agreed to train students in internet-based self-employment methods. Cisco has agreed to set up the Cisco Network Academy. Huawei Company has agreed to develop information and communication technology infrastructure development and build training facilities. Oracle has agreed to provide students training at an Oracle technology and certification facility.
Teradata has agreed to establish a development centre employing 200 people. Transworld Company has agreed to provide a fibre optic link to Arfa Software Park. Wateen has agreed to provide free Wi-Fi internet facilities to educational institutions in the province.
