Promotion questioned: SHC summons AG Sindh for April 26
Petitioner challenges recommendations of selection board.
KARACHI:
The Sindh Advocate General was put on notice for April 26 by a division bench of Sindh High Court comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Nadeem Akhtar, in a petition questioning the promotion of Nusrat Manghan as DIG Prisons.
The bench earlier heard a petition filed by Ashraf Ali Nizamani, presently posted as Jail Superintendent, Nara Open Prison.
Alleging discrimination, the petitioner maintains that he has a clean career record of more than 20 years and was placed at number two on merit list while respondent Manghan was at number five of the said list. The selection board without assigning any reason, deferred the promotion of the petitioner while his junior, Nusrat Manghan, was given preference.
The petitioner implored to the court to examine the service record of petitioner and respondent both and also record of proceedings of the selection board which made the alleged recommendations.
The bench after hearing counsel for petitioner ordered that notice be issued for April 26 to the Sindh Advocate General to appear before the court and defend the decision by the government.
