Bench strength: Sindhi judges to be appointed within a month, says SHC CJ
CJ Alam assured lawyers that judges will be appointed within a month to fill vacant posts in the high court.
HYDERABAD:
Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Mushir Alam assured lawyers that judges will be appointed within a month to fill vacant posts in the high court. Currently the high court has around one-third of its total sanctioned strength of 40 judges.
Alam was at the sessions court on Saturday with Moroccan Chief Justice Mustapha Fares, who is on a visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Federal Shariat Court Chief Justice Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan.
While replying to a question, Chief Justice Alam also announced that most of the new judges will be from rural Sindh. The lawyers from rural Sindh have been candid in voicing their concerns about discrimination against Sindhi judges for appointments and promotion to the higher judiciary. He said that other provinces were “duplicating’ Sindh’s model of archiving the court records on the internet.” Soon people will also be able to see the case proceedings on the internet as well while sitting at home.”
Moroccan Chief Justice
In his address to the Hyderabad District Bar Association, Fares said that the purpose of the judiciary is to provide justice to the oppressed. “I feel proud in knowing that the founder of Pakistan was a lawyer.” The judicial system of Pakistan is quiet similar to the one in Morocco.
