Samsung revenue increases to $32.34b

KARACHI:
Samsung Electronics Company Limited’s revenue increased by 17 per cent to $32.34 billion on a consolidated basis for the second quarter ended June 30.

The company, which employs more than 164,600 people across 61 countries, posted a net income of $3.65 billion for the second quarter of 2010.

“Our component businesses performed very strongly, yet it was a more challenging quarter for our set of businesses,” said Samsung Electronics Pakistan General Manager Steve Han.

With intensified competition throughout the digital media and mobile industries, maintaining the current profitability levels may become a challenge, said Han.

However, “we will continue to focus on introducing differentiated products and widening our technology leadership to meet the difficult market conditions,” he added.

Consolidated oper ating profit rose 88 per cent to a record high of $4.27 billion on yearly basis for the period under review.

Component businesses were the key driver for the company. The semiconductor business recorded an operating profit of $2.12 billion on sales of $8.13 billion while the LCD business generated an operating profit of $751 million on sales of $6.62 billion.

Mobile communications and telecommunication networks posted an operating profit of $537 million on revenue of $7.49 billion and the operating profit margin was 7.2 per cent.
