RIO DE JANEIRO:
Doctors in Brazil will perform a new round of tests on Fifa’s ailing former President Joao Havelange, 95, who has been hospitalised for the past month after suffering a serious infection. A statement from Samaritano Hospital in Rio de Janeiro read Havelange would have tests on his abdomen and thorax as well an examination of his infected right ankle. “Today some exams will be carried out along with a new checkup of his right ankle,” read the statement signed by Joao Mansur Filho, head of the hospital’s coronary unit. He said Havelange was still receiving intravenous antibiotic treatment, and it was not known when he would be released.
