Civil awards: Punjab govt nominates 31 people

The federal government announces the recipients on August 14 and awards are conferred on March 23.

The Punjab government has nominated 31 people for various civil awards, The Express Tribune has learnt. The federal government announces the recipients on August 14 and awards are conferred on March 23. Last year the Punjab government had recommended eight people out of which four were selected by the Cabinet Division. Among those nominated this year are four judges killed in the Sialkot Jail shootout on July 25, 2003. This year’s nominatees include four civil servants besides teachers, writers and artists. The nominees include actor Babboo Baral, folk singer Iqbal Bahoo, and civil servants Allah Buksh Malik and Najam Shah.  Six people have been nominated for Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, eight for Tamgha-i-Shujat and 17 for Pride of Performance awards.
