Court orders school to reimburse 64 students who missed Matric exam

It orders the BSEK to ensure that its management can’t work anywhere in Sindh.

KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court has ordered the authorities to take action against a school in Baldia for “irresponsibly” forgetting to register 63 students for the Matric exams.

The orders were to be implemented by the directorate of secondary school education and the Board of Secondary School Education Karachi (BSEK).

The judges also ordered that Madina Excellent Model School return to the students one year’s school and exam fees.

According to the lawyer representing Umber Javed and 63 others, the students submitted the registration and examination fee with proper paperwork at the school. The principal had to leave the city because his father died in the Punjab. The appointed deputy missed the deadline for the submission of exam forms.

Abrar Hasan, who represented the board of education, said that it was not their fault. “Once the deadline expired, nothing could be done,” he said. The bench had asked him to ask the BSEK chairman to consider these cases on humanitarian grounds so that their academic year is not wasted. “The forms were not submitted,” he replied. “Hence the board can’t do anything at this stage.”

However, the bench ordered the board to take action against the school and to ensure that they can’t work anywhere else in the province.
