SI arrested in court for tampering with record
Judge finds anomalies in arrest date, drug recovery claim in record.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Nisar Ahmed on Wednesday had a sub inspector handcuffed in his court and directed the Mughalpura station house officer (SHO) to register a case against him and a colleague for tampering with the police record in a drugs case.
Hearing a post-arrest bail plea moved by Amjad Ali, who is accused of possession of hashish, the judge found several anomalies in the police record of the case. The original complaint stated that Ali had been arrested at 12.50am on April 11, but the carbon copy mentioned April 10 as the date of arrest and did not mention a time. Further, the accused was stated to be in possession of 110g of hashish in one place and in possession of 120g in another.
Judge Ahmed summoned the Mughalpura SHO. Meanwhile he directed SI Rafaqat Ali, who was in court at the time, to lift his arms above his head, a witness told The Express Tribune.
The sub inspector tried to apologise, but the judge rejected his apology, saying he would be taught a lesson for tampering with the police record. Some lawyers who were previously chatting at the sides began poking fun at the SI. Other police officials watched the SI sympathetically.
When the SHO arrived, the judge directed him to place the SI in handcuffs, arrest him and register a case against him and his colleague SI Khalid Pervaiz under the relevant section of the Police Order of 2002 for manipulation of police records. The judge also ordered that a copy of his order and the case file be sent to the inspector general of Punjab Police.
Meanwhile, the judge set bail for Amjad Ali at Rs1,000.
