Pakistan league ‘far from being confirmed’

Zaka, however, confirms PPL to take place in October.

KARACHI:
While the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) focus remains on Bangladesh setting foot in the country, chairman Zaka Ashraf has confirmed that their backup hopes of bringing foreign players to the country - the Pakistan Premier League (PPL) - will be held in October.

“The league will be held in October,” said Ashraf before adding that the event will not only serve the cricket-starved nation but also help boost the country’s economy.

“October is the most suitable window for us but there’s a long way to go and we need to come up with realistic model before anything else,” a PCB official told The Express Tribune. “The weather is also ideal in October so it will be good for players and spectators. There is a craze of cricket in Pakistan and we want to make sure that our stadiums are full.”

There are four companies interested in holding the league and their presentations to the board will determine the feasibility of the venture.

“Before the chairman’s departure to Dubai, the presentations were made and the process will continue. Things are far from being confirmed right now.”
