Cueists off to Doha with high hopes

KARACHI: Pakistan squad will depart for Doha today to take part in the 28th Asian Snooker Championship with cueists Mohammad Asif and Sultan Mohammad confident of making their presence felt in the tournament.

Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) Secretary Munawwar Hassan Sheikh will accompany the team as manager while Shabbir Hussain will travel to Doha to perform refereeing duties.

Asif, who is placed in Group A, said he was aiming to win the event.

“If I target anything less, my concentration and commitment will suffer,” Asif told The Express Tribune. “It will be a competitive event but my experience of having participated in a seven-nation event there will help my cause.”

Meanwhile, PBSA President Alamgir Sheikh will also be travelling to Qatar ahead of the Annual General Meeting of the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports, to be held on April 25, where he will bid for Pakistan to host the 2013 Asian Championship.
