Punjab to table Local Government Act 2010

LAHORE: The Punjab Government finalised the Local Government Act 2010 on Friday and it will be tabled in the Punjab Assembly on August 23.

According to the Act, thirty three percent of district government seats have been reserved for minorities, farmers and women.

The Election Commission will be responsible for holding local government elections.

The elections will be held on a non-political basis after a tenure of four years.

District coordination committees and special magistrates will be appointed to monitor development works.

Union Councils will continue to operate in rural areas. Rural areas will have a District Council system, while there will be a Corporation System in urban areas.
