Green energy: Sindh govt to allot land for wind power projects
The government hopes to generate 3,000MW electricity in 18 months.

The Sindh government has decided to allot 26,000 acres of land among eight foreign and four local investors, to generate 3,000 megawatts (MW) power from wind mills in 18 months.
This was decided at a meeting, presided by Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah, at the CM House on Monday. Sindh Board of Investment chairman Zubair Motiwala, Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional Chief Secretary Malik Israr, Board of Revenue’s Shahzor Shamoon, Finance secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, deputy commissioners of Thatta and Jamshoro, among others.
Officials were informed about a wind path in Jhimpir, which could be utilised for generating electricity. The meeting decided that further investments into wind mill projects will be finalised after talks with the federal government.
Board of investigation secretary Naheed Shah Durrani and land utilisation (board of revenue) secretary Ghulam Mustafa Phul pointed out that land for wind power projects was being allotted in Thatta and Jamshoro districts for a lease of 30 years, with a rent of Rs500 per acre per annum for the first ten years.
This turns out to a rent of Rs50 per square yard per annum.
