Football: Italy mourns over Morosini death
Morosini, 25, collapsed on the pitch in Saturday’s Serie B match at Pescara.
ROME:
Italy was in shock as the sober realisation sank in of the tragedy that befell Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini on Saturday. La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport summed up the shocking incident with identical headlines ‘Death on the pitch, football stops’. Morosini, 25, collapsed on the pitch in Saturday’s Serie B match at Pescara and was then rushed to the hospital. He suffered a cardiac arrest and the game was then called off soon after the incident. “Unfortunately he was already dead when the ambulance arrived,” said Doctor De Blasi. “He never regained consciousness.” As a result, all the games were called off for the weekend.
