Cricket: Saeed vows to prepare doosra Ajmal
Pakistan off-spinner promises back-up by the time he retires.
Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal said that he will ensure that there is no vacuum left following his retirement, promising a back-up of bowlers who can take his place in the national side, according to ESPNcricinfo.
While Ajmal, the top-ranked spinner in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings in both Tests and One-day Internationals (ODI), said that he was confident of playing till the 2015 World Cup, he felt that it was his responsibility to prepare his replacement.
“I hope by the time I am ready to walk out, another Ajmal would be ready to take my place,” the 34-year-old told ESPNcricinfo. “It’s my responsibility to do so. Pakistan has very talented players and there is no dearth of spin bowlers.”
Ajmal made his Test debut at the age of 31 but has quickly established a reputation of being the best in the business. “Age definitely plays a role but I have no regret for being late into international cricket. It’s also a matter of fitness that can extend a player’s life. I am optimistic that I can play at least till the 2015 World Cup.”
