Lyari Expressway: High court calls for report on status of project
The Lyari Expressway project is being delayed because of financial constraints.
KARACHI:
The Lyari Expressway project is being delayed because of financial constraints and people affected by it could not be paid compensation, stated the Deputy Attorney General before a bench of the Sindh High Court here on Friday.
Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Nadeem Akhtar asked the counsel for the defunct city government to submit a report about their financial position, the extent of work so far completed on the project and causes of the delay.
The bench was hearing a constitutional petition filed by Muhammad Hussain Rajoo and 18 other residents of Bhangoria Goth, Sohrab Goth, etc who maintained that they were neither given compensation nor alternate plots. The DAG, appearing for the federal government at this stage, stated that work on the expressway came to a halt as the finances were drained. He said that funds would be allocated in next year’s budget so that the affected people could be paid adequately.
