2000 South Waziristan IDPs to start returning home on April 25

All of the IDPs belong to the Mehsud tribe will be repatriated.

After having spent close to three years in camps, 2000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the South Waziristan will start returning to their homes from April 25, Political Administration Officials confirmed that an order in this regard has been issued.

Members of the Mehsud tribe had been forced to flee from their native lands in 2009 after the military launched operation Rah-e-Nijaat against militants in the troubled South Waziristan Agency.

Nawab Khan Safi, the Assistant Political Agent of Sub division Ladha, South Waziristan Agency told The Express Tribune that the Political administration and Pakistan Army have decided to repatriate nearly 2000 IDP families to their homes in Ladha and Sarwakai subdivisions of South Waziristan Agency.

He said that this is the second phase of the IDPs returning to their homes after the restoration of peace, termed “Naveed-e-Sahar” (In the hope of a new Dawn).


He said that a registration process will be initiated on April 20, and completed on April 22 in the Political Compound of District Tank in which all IDP families belonging to Nave Raghzai, Parthe Ghai, Sheen Waam, Khadrai, Zearhy Waam, and Bhangewala in Ladha Sub divisions and Shawour in Sarwakai Sub division will be registered.

He said that the after the completion of the registration process, IDP families will start returning to their homes on Aprli 25 from Fort Killa District Tank and Ratha Kulachi Stadium in district Dera Ismail Khan. The process is expected to continue till April 28. Army  will provide security during the transfer.

He added that every family will be given six months ration, one tent, Rs25,000 in cash, and non food Items.

He said that some of the families belonging to Kotkai in Ladha have been left during the First phase of the IDPs returning process will also be accommodated in the 2nd phase of returning and they will also move to their homes.
