DPC unhappy over Parliament's unanimous decision to reopen Nato supply line
Maulana Samiul Haq says that reopening NATO supply route may lead to a US attack on Pakistan.
PESHAWAR:
“You want to feed them so they grow stronger and attack us” an angry Maulana Samiul Haq lashed out at the government after the joint session unanimously adopted revised recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security on Thursday, thereby approving reopening of NATO supply lines.
Chairman of the Difa-e-Pakistan Council, Maulana Samiul Haq was addressing a press conference in reference to the clause which allowed reopening of the Nato supply lines – though sanction has not been provided for transfer weapons for US troops through Pakistan, along with Jamaat-e-Islami’s, Provincial Chief, Professor Ibrahim at the Markaz-e-Islami.
Haq said that the Difa-e-Pakistan Council remained opposed to the reopening of NATO supply line adding that the parliament’s decision of the reopening it will not be an easy decision to make given “its one of the most sensitive issue in the parliamentary history of Pakistan” he said.
In relation to the Difa-e-Pakistan rally which is expected to be held in Peshawar on Sunday April 15, Samiul Haq said that not only the timing of the rally in Peshawar was critical but “Peshawar’s rally was more important than those held in Karachi or Lahore because it was an area that was directly affected by the Nato supply line.” He argued that if today the Nato supply line is restored and rations taken to Afghanistan, tomorrow the US may attack, claiming their supply line was not safe.
Haq also argued that a petition filed against the Salala incident had not been taken seriously and it was said that since the petitioners were “tribals” it lay outside the court’s jurisdiction.
Professor Ibrahim, added that the Nato supplies were not “legal” in anyways, but its restoration after suspension will be more shameful. “The DPC is not a political platform,” he said and in the elections the parties will be free to choose whatever path they might take.
