The balloting to allot free 5 marla plots to homeless people will take place on June 6. The letters of ownership will be given on June 15 under the Jinnah Abadi Scheme, Bahawalpur Division Commissioner Muhammad Khan Khichi said on Wednesday. He told DCOs to complete the verification of forms within the set timeframe.
Khichi was chairing a meeting to discuss the performance of District Monitoring Committees in the Bahawalpur division. He said that the government had set April 30 as the deadline and form scrutiny will be completed by May 15. He said that 57,310 forms had been distributed and 33,875 forms had been received. Bahawalpur DCO Dr Naeem Rauf, Bahawalnagar DCO Dr Asim Iqbal and Rahimyar Khan DCO Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi, Additional Commissioner Coordination Rana Muhammed Shahzad and Assistant Commissioner General Shahid Majeed Khan attended the meeting.
In a separate meeting, the Bahawalpur DCO told local parliamentarians that under the Jinnah Abadi Scheme 3 marla plots would be allotted in urban areas and 5 marla plots in rural areas to people earning less than Rs 6,000 per month. He said that 13,212 plots would be distributed in the Bahawalpur district. These would include 817 plots of 3 marlas and 190 plots of 5 marlas in Tehsil Bahawalpur city, 4,800 plots of 5 marlas in Tehsil Bahawalpur Saddar, 220 plots of 5 marlas in Tehsil Ahmedpur East, 1,197 plots of 5 marlas in Tehsil Hasilpur, 373 plots of 3 marlas in Tehsil Khairpur Tamewali, 2,453 plots of 3 marlas and 3,162 plots of 5 marlas in Tehsil Yazman.
Minister for Prisons Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar, Parliamentary Secretary for Chief Minister Inspection Team Sardar Jahanzeb Warren, MPA Haji Zulfiqar Ali and Task Force on Essential Items Chairman Chaudhry Sammiullah were also present.
