Energy conservation drive in full swing

Decisions taken during National Energy Conference enforced.

ISLAMABAD:

The government has started implementing decisions taken during the National Energy Conference held on April 9.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Water and Power, as per decisions, an equitable load management system has been initiated indiscriminately in all provinces from Wednesday, and instructions have already been issued to distribution companies (Discos) and other concerned departments.

Uninterrupted power supply is being provided to the industrial sector only in areas where they have independent industrial feeders. Load management advisory committees have also been set up at the Disco level, with representation from provinces, in order to take decisions on load management keeping in view the availability of electricity for all sectors.

To save electricity, the use of air conditioners has been prohibited for all grade-19 and below officers. To monitor compliance, surprise raids will be conducted in this regard.

To light street lights while conserving energy, 50% of all street lights will be switched off by Discos and only alternating poles will be lit.

Minister of Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar has directed concerned authorities to ensure strict implementation of the decisions of the energy conference. A special cell to monitor load management, daily power generation and demand and supply has also been set up in this regard.
